It’s gone dark. And I really need to make a new logo for my site. That will happen when I can be arsed.
Last year just flew by – and I put that down to just 1 thing: finally going to work every day to do a job that I GENUINELY LOVE. It’s also fairly hard to dislike a job where pay day is every single Friday.
With this knowledge in mind, I think for my big half-century next year (yes I will be fucking 50) I’m going to finally accept the offer of a big cheque from mum, and I’m going to use it to build a FUCKING BEAST of a PC, based around a RTX 4090, or 3090 if the 4090 prices are STILL this fucking ridiculous. I suppose the mistake I made was thinking beloved Windows 7 was going to be supported for a lot longer than it was. I bought a CPU/motherboard set up that was “Windows 10 Ready”, which is usually your byword for “going to fall down fairly fast after a couple more updates to Windows 10”. One of those ‘updates’ turned out to be Windows 11 – which, of course, something labelled as “Windows 10 Ready” is just not cut out for. And while “tech journalists” have long since forgotten Windows 7 even existed, as they only ever see a very small picture of technology, I still miss it like crazy, alongside millions of other PC builders out there who, unlike tech journalists, DO know shit about technology.
God alone knows what the state of hardware will be come 2024, but one thing is almost guaranteed – the shit hot stuff around right now will have dropped in price, and some of it even from 2 years ago still looks fucking stunning. 2 years in PC terms is no longer the aeons it was in the late 90’s. Huge leaps in speed and performance are no longer happening at anything like the pace they were back then. What’s most embarrassing of all is reading that newer nVidia cards are being out performed by their older ones. This simply never happened in the early days. Sad and unexciting though that is, it does at least mean that what you buy now will last out a hell of a lot longer than it ever would in those heady days – and not just graphics cards, I mean pretty much everything.
This year I’ll just be asking for a couple of bottles of Nivea Men Sensitive Shower Gel. Extravagence!
