I’ve sold my Zenfone 8 to Cex. A measly £10 extra was all they gave for DOUBLE the RAM. You name me 1 single other fucking flagship phone right now where you’re gonna get 16GB RAM!!
It’s certainly not from the mediocre Samsung.
I came away with £341, then went straight to my bank, walking as fast as I could to avoid any potential spending hazards (I did buy more Belgian Buns from Greggs – but that was planned anyway), and paid it all back into my account.
It’s hard to lose £510. But it would be even harder to lose £850. That’s how I will look at it.
So now I’m back on the Zenfone 7 Pro. Of course it’s still a great phone, but my god it’s BIG.
ASUS have fucked up, as the increasing number of people coming forward posting that their Zenfone 8 has bricked is showing.
I am not one of those who is going to be childish about this though and shriek “NEVER buying ASUS again!!”. Get a fucking grip. All companies fuck up from time to time. ALL companies. That would be every single company on the entire planet. All companies have missteps – and this is ASUS’ one.
One thing that I’ve always known ASUS to do from their very first Zenfone is TRY – in a way that very very few phone manufacturers do. Apple know they don’t really need to bother much, and of course Samsung know they don’t need to bother trying – as they’re doling out bribes to the ‘independent’ tech sites to always review them favourably. Something Samsung have never challenged me on anywhere I’ve stated it because they know it’s true. Mind share has a price, and Samsung have bottomless pockets. That’s just facts.
So, here’s to 2022, and I have every confidence that ASUS will learn from this and be back. And I can’t wait to see what they come up with next. I really, really hope it’s another small phone, because my god I am missing how the Zenfone 8 feels SO badly….
