I’ve been looking at the Motorola Edge Plus – another beast of a phone both in price and spec – although annoyingly no SD card slot (no, in this day and age, with the sheer amount of photos and video I take per week plus games, 256gb is NOT sufficient). But what IS guaranteed is that this phone is Band 20 – i.e. the o2 network for 4G – i.e. this means that I can finally go home to Tesco Mobile. This of course means that unlike every other greedy cunt of a mobile phone provider I will NOT be forced to suck up tariff price increases every.single.fucking.April – regardless of the price on my “contract” that they choose to not bother honouring. And how it worked out through the 8 years I was with Tesco is, I tended to pay less and less and get more and more data every year, you know, rather than the other way around!!
Even though they told me themselves there’s no profit in it, Tesco Mobile DO have a good lot of customers. It’s just a shame even more don’t make the change. But then it may be for the same reason as me – not many phone manufacturers bother supporting Band 20/800mhz 4G. Most start at 850mhz. Tesco Mobile also don’t exactly have the most dazzling variety of phones to choose from for a contract – opting instead for the banality of “hmmm shall I choose an Apple or a Samsung”. This is a real shame although perhaps explained by the lack of profit.
There’s clearly no impetus at all for any other provider to stop being so fucking greedy – not least judging from their arrogant attitude when confronted over it (EE completely avoiding addressing the fact that they piss millions every year away on sponsorship of BAFTA Award ceremonies, sports and TV shows, yet somehow can’t cover the cost of not raising tariff prices every single year no matter how many times you try and get them to even mention this fact). I just love how they’ll also tell you that Tesco Mobile “doesn’t invest in the network” – a line which is delivered in the hope that you’re not aware that PlusNet Mobile operates in exactly the same way as Tesco Mobile do, yet they DO increase their tariff every year as well.
If it comes to it I will fucking buy my way out of my ignored, worthless ‘contract’ with EE. This is all so fucking frustrating as I’ve LOVED my Asus phone. But the last time Asus appear to have had an 800mhz inclusive phone was their very first Zenfone in 2014. But so be it. I guess I’ll just have to learn to delete more – unless of course, Asus make my whole year and include 800mhz on the Zenfone 7…..
