It’s with a heavy little heart that I have decided I can’t watch Channel 4 News anymore. I’m currently watching Sky News in it’s place.
What I found so perfect about Channel 4 News on weekdays, now I work nights, is that it was the perfect start to my ‘day’, being at 7pm to 8. The perfect hour of news before work where I could catch up with events. I loved all the presenters, and the fact they almost always carried stories that none of the other 24 hour rolling news channels were covering (which in itself is ridiculous – they’re rolling 24 hours, and Channel 4 News was 1 hour every week day).
But lately not a single week – frequently not even a single night passes, without some inserted, insufferably woke ‘story’ about how evil white people are and how hard done by black people are (I’m pretty certain the majority of black people don’t actually see it this way). Yes yes, “slavery bad”. It happened, it doesn’t happen now. “Oh but what can we learn?” NOTHING!!!!! You’d only learn something if it was likely to happen again. I tuned in every evening to watch “the news”. Not reports trying to make me feel bad about being white (something which I’m not entirely sure these people are aware, is something that I don’t actually have any control over). If you want to make a social justice documentary fine!! Have them on every single day of the week. But after the news….?!! I don’t need this stuff shoved in my face every single fucking week. Sometimes it’s painfully obvious they’ve gone out of their way to cobble something together for that night’s programme – sometimes with the aid of cherry picking and skewing. I just want to know stuff that’s happened in the world, in my relaxing time before work, or else I start to feel slightly insane.
Is that really too much to ask, of an hour long programme called “Channel 4 News”…?
